Ashley Anderton - Drawing and Painting

Ashley Anderton was born in Monroe, LA. At an early age, she became captivated by art. Her love of color and painting became a mainstay in her life. She privately studied painting throughout her elementary years into high school.

In high school, she was accepted into the Gifted and Talented Art Program at Neville High School in Monroe, LA.  Ashley was daily challenged during studio time to work on different subject matters and learn other mediums including watercolor, pen and ink, and charcoal. Despite being exposed to different types of medium, Ashley discovered she loved using acrylic paint and preferred bold colors. She wanted her art to make people smile.

In adulthood, Ashley carried her love for painting wherever she lived and worked. As a nurse, she was commissioned to paint five large paintings for the pediatric treatment room for the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS where she worked as a nurse just out of college. After moving to Birmingham to work as a pharmaceutical representative, Ashley’s art evolved even more. During her spare time, she painted murals, sold paintings and began to keep pushing herself to grow her art skills. In 2003, her pastor taught on the attributes of God. It was then, she began exploring painting the Bible. As a choir member, she was commissioned to paint five large paintings of the life of Christ (from birth to death) to hang in the sanctuary over the Hunter Street Choir loft during the entire month of December. In 2018, she painted scenes from the Book of Matthew to illustrate sermons her pastor was preaching. Ashley has taught numerous Bible Journaling workshops and painting classes to young girls and adult women.

Ashley primarily works with acrylic on canvas or paper. She is currently painting abstracts using a bold limited palette. In the past, subject matter has included painting old country churches, buildings, sunflowers, birds, animals, folk art style flowers, 1920s flapper girl faces with hats (which remind her of her grandmother at a young age), landscapes, Scripture, scenes from the Bible and patterns of color.
