James Black - Guitar

James Black has been an instructor at the Hunter Street Arts Academy for over 10 years. He has been playing guitar for 33 years and has worked as both a professional session musician and touring performer in the past. In addition to this, he has also served as the worship leader/minister of music at two different churches around the Birmingham area. He has formal training in both classical and jazz guitar, and has worked professionally performing many other styles including fingerstyle, Broadway, rock/metal, fusion, orchestral, and in movies/television.  The teaching method he employs is more formally focused and includes reading sheet music, understanding music theory, and mastering many techniques that allow his students to be well-rounded guitarists.  He has had several students move on to earn degrees in music from top tier institutions of higher education and has had quite a few students who have become professional musicians themselves.
