Katie Warlick - Art

Katie Warlick is originally from Greenville, MS, where she developed a passion for art at a very young age. In school, art was her favorite subject and served as a vital outlet for personal expression. Katie attended Delta State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting with a minor in Art History, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education.

During her teaching career in Mississippi, Katie taught elementary art in Cleveland and high school art at Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Madison. In 2023, she received a Master of Education in Art from Mississippi College.

Katie has showcased her artwork in several exhibitions, including Mississippi College’s Competitive Student Art Showcase, where she won 3rd place in both fiber and acrylic categories. She has also participated in the Mississippi College Graduate Research Exhibition and the Crosstie Arts & Jazz Festival. In 2020, Katie attended the SCAD Advanced Placement Institute for Art & Design and served as an AP art teacher while teaching high school art.

After moving to Birmingham, Katie began teaching art to students of all ages, from elementary school children to adults, at Samford’s Academy of the Arts. Currently, she teaches art at Trace Crossings Elementary. Throughout her teaching career, she has organized many art camps during the summer. In her spare time, Katie enjoys painting with acrylics and oils, as well as throwing on the pottery wheel.

In her teaching, Katie emphasizes the importance of creative thinking, problem-solving, and exploring various art mediums. She encourages her students not to be afraid to try new things. Katie believes that the art classroom provides an opportunity to unwind from daily stresses and create art in a calming, therapeutic environment.
